Barrhead is a town in the Canadian province of Alberta. There is a vibrant and mixed agricultural industry ranging from dairy to sheep to fruits. On top of this, major deposits of natural gas and oil exist in the area, creating a fairly wealthy and diverse local economy. The area was originally boreal forest, and still produces significant timber. There is also a high density of wildlife in the area, with black bear and mountain lion known to come into town limits. Barrhead's official bird is the Great Blue Heron. It was named after the Scottish town Barrhead, the birthplace of one of the area's early settlers, James McGuire. The town was also along the route of the Klondike Trail.
